HIGH PERFORMANCE TEAM DEVELOPMENT

For exceptional individual and team performance

Team development services train teams to achieve peak performance and increased job satisfaction in record time. In the first step, we gain a thorough understanding of the client organization’s vision, goals and challenges. This knowledge guides our assessment of a team’s strengths and development needs, along with specific areas of concern. With this as a foundation, we custom design programs, in partnership with clients, to address daily team-related challenges with emphasis on the pragmatic.

Team programs typically include a series of two- to three-hour group sessions, facilitated over time to encourage practice and integration of new skills. Short-term individual coaching is often provided for team leaders and members to leverage insights gained in each group session.

Jill Kanter Associates’ High Performance Team Development Process:

I. Assessment of Team Strengths and Areas for Improvement
We begin by conducting an analysis of a team’s effectiveness. Our data gathering process involves interviews with team members and other individuals who have key insight into the team’s performance and dynamics. These interviews are sometimes supplemented with customized questionnaires and customer surveys. Assessment findings form the foundation for the development of team program objectives and session design.

II. Team Development Sessions
These two- to three-hour sessions focus on team skill-building, using work the team actually needs to accomplish (e.g., team problem-solving and planning activities). Team performance areas commonly addressed include:

  • feedback on team strengths, development needs and concerns
  • creation of a team’s vision and goals
  • clarification of team member roles and responsibilities
  • exploration of team members’ work styles, often supported by the “Personal Insights Profile” (DiSC) instrument
  • improvement of team communication and planning skills
  • enhancement of team conflict management and problem solving skills, often supported by A. Hiam’s Dealing With Conflict Instrument
  • strengthening of working relationships among team members
III. Evaluation of Team Progress
We evaluate team progress through a variety of follow-up activities, including interviews with team members, leaders, and customers, and team performance assessments. Effective follow-up is critical to determining the relative success of a team development program, and the best way to support a team’s further improvement.
